The Australian Version vs. The American Version of "The Slap ".

I somehow missed the first episode of the American Version of The Slap. I couldn't find it on On Demand so I tried Netflix. Up until then, I had no idea there was an Australian Version that aired in, I believe 2011. I started to watch the Australian episodes and was intrigued. After finding the 1st episode of the American version,I watched it and I have to say there's no comparison between the two. The Australian show is by far so much better as far as I'm concerned. It had so much more depth into each of the characters you just don't get with the US version which is a pity considering they will probably end up canceling it altogether. It looks as though they only made 1 "season" of the Australian show, which is another disappointment. I would have really liked to see how everything played out. (To be honest, it may have, as I've only watched the first 4 episodes. I hate getting invested in a show only to have it end or be canceled. If it sounds like I'm venting, I am. Television has too few good programs on that are worth putting your time and energy into and I thought this was going to be one.I guess I'll just have to read the book.

American version is utter crap, I just brought the bluray of the Australian version which as a lot more realistic.

Aus version is actually pretty good, American version is trash.

I think it's a bit over the top to say the American version is "trash" or "crap". Just because its not as good as the Austrailian version doesn't mean one has to go into hysterics about how horrible it is. I've seen plenty of shows and while I definitely think the Australian version is better in most ways (I prefer the light and look of the American version) doesn't mean the American version is actually a terrible show.

Yeah, if I had never seen the Aussie version I'd probably think it wasn't that bad. It's just going to suffer badly when it's remade and you can see how they screwed up the remake.

I completely agree! I started watching the American version on Hulu Plus before I even knew of the original Australian mini-series. It's unfortunate that this interpretation is an Americanized-watered-down shell of the original. LaPaglia's Hector has so much more depth and sex appeal than Sarsgard. I also think that Essie Davis is captivating as Anouk! Uma Thurman just doesn't come close to capturing the character as Davis does. I'm currently binge-watching the Aussie version and can now understand how the series was meant to unfold. I also get why Connie would be so infatuated by Hector!

Both versions were mini-series.

I just found Australian version of The Slap on Amazon Prime. I was not aware there were 2 versions. Years ago I tried to watch the one with Skarsgard & Thurman and could not get past the first episode. It was trashy trash.

Anyway I started to try to re-watch it today, when I discovered in was Australian. Much better, even though I still want to slap Hugo's parents, hard.

Since having access to all these foreign, international shows & movies through Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, I realize how trashy & badly written American shows have become in the last decade. It's a whole new world.
