And Ms. McPhee may do well enough - with the smaller demographic expectations - to make a very shallow niche for herself . . . probably she'll have to reduce her asking price, but she really is a good choice for low-rent romance heroine - did you ever read Margaret Atwood's "Lady Oracle?" The protagonist secretly writes romances, and notes the requirement of not making the heroine too recognizable, specifically human - just a rough outline onto which readers can project themselves to fill in details. Tabula rasa, indeed - and was there ever a blanker tablet than Katharine McPhee?

Good Lord, that's snarktastic... I'd never seen that before, the beginning is actually kind of alarming, like a Bergman film, or like she's asking the guy if he wants a table... IN HELL!!!
Her acting in the scene with her friend is not so bad, the friend another story (maybe the idea is that she's supposed to make Kat look good by contrast?), but my word, she looks practically comatose when she's taking his compliment in the dream sequence. When a hot guy tells you you're beautiful, you don't have to blush and stammer, but you should look a little more excited and a little less like you're gearing up to blandly and arrogantly tell him, "I know, I get that all the time."

I think it's the misty-white-Greek-revival thing, plus the almost imperceptible hum of the camera. More "Turn of the Screw" than "Practical Magic". :)
