Sunday box office is a SMASHING $59M+. 2nd Best Sunday in history!!! Word of mouth is utterly INSANE :O

Yup, you read that right. Not even the greatest Marvel fanboy could have foreseen something like that happening. This is defying all logic. Deadline is reporting $59M+ while Gitesh is reporting $60M. Thats $9M-10M above original estimates. These are the all time top Sundays -

Star Wars: The Force Awakens BV $60,553,189
Jurassic World Uni. $57,207,490
Marvel's The Avengers BV $57,066,733
Star Wars: The Last Jedi BV $51,331,888

Monday, 12:05AM: T’Challa has recorded the second best Sunday ever at the domestic B.O. with an estimated $59.55M per industry estimates tonight, filing behind the all-time record held by Disney/Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($60.5M on Dec. 20, 2015). This now pushes Black Panther to a 3-day between $201M-$202M; still the 5th best domestic 3-day opening of all-time after 2012’s Avengers ($207.4M).

So this entire week we've had the estimates being constantly underestimated because it's harder to predict how much of the casual/non-comic book fans are going to impact the dailies. When the actuals come in, then it could very well snatch the record from The Force Awakens. How does an origin superhero movie that's 18th in a franchise even manage to get to this level. It's mind boggling.

Disney/Marvel must be on cloud nine at the moment. The other studios must also be seething at how unstoppable they are at the box office but somebody has to be king :D

Yeah, and I can't believe Liberace was gay.
I mean, women loved him!
I didn't see that one coming.

Yeap, it's almost unbelievable.

But this movie has been pushed as nothing before. According to average from film reviewers made by Rotten Tomates, it's the SECOND GREATEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME. The third one is Citizen Kane. Number four is The Third Man, which is said to be (really) have been directed by Orson Wells. And number five is, wait for it: Get Out.

If SJW is a new religion, and it definitely is, this is "The Ten Commandments" of SJWs, which, by the way, is the 6th highest box office movie of all time.

This is more than a movie. This is the main religious movie of our time, this is a full religious event by itself.

Hmmm - 'get out' is the 5th best movie of all time?

wow

I think you may be onto something -

It's interesting though, isn't it? You'd usually expect such bullshit to come from biased viewers - but these days, if you look at numerous game and film reviews which feature extremely high marks from pro's and low marks from viewers - it seems as if reviewers are more biased than fox news and cnn combined. These are supposed to be professionals, but alas -
I wonder if this is due to the low wages that reviewers are getting these days - easy purchase for the big studios.

It doesn't seem to me that they're bought. I wish. Money is a f*cking bitch, but it's a predictable bitch. This seems to go beyond. that. This is like a new faith. They're bring the light of faith to this world of sin. It's like a f*cking sect.

Scaring.

I wouldn't say word is getting around and it helped Sunday make as much as it did. I saw it Sunday, but I already wanted to see the movie and didn't care what people were saying. I just couldn't get around to seeing the movie until Sunday. I'm sure there are others that were in a similar situation as me. Plus maybe throw in that all showings were all sold out on Friday and Saturday where people live and they couldn't see the movie until Sunday. Not every city or town has movie theaters like how theaters are in cities like New York and Los Angeles that have a showing every 5-10 minutes.

In my town the movie theater doesn't open until noon or 1pm on Saturday and Sunday and not until 3pm Monday thru Friday. Unless it's summer. During the summer the movie theater opens EVERY day at around noon or 1pm. And the theater only has 8 screens/auditoriums. So it's limited on how many showings there can be. Usually the two bigger auditoriums ones are used for major releases. Black Panther was in the two bigger auditoriums but there was only about 3-4 showings in each auditorium and there was only about 30-45 minutes between when the showings started. Maybe just 20 minutes. So a Black Panther showing in Auditorium 1 started at 6:05pm and Auditorium 8 would start at 6:25pm. Then the next showing in 1 was at 8:55pm. And there was no showings between the 6:25 and 8:55. So showings are limited and they can fill up pretty quickly. I think Auditoriums 1 and 8 only have about 100-125 seats each. The town I live in along with the population in a 50 mile radius is about 10,000-13,000. So those auditoriums can fill pretty quick. Only thing though is that with a small population, everyone can pretty much get their tickets last minute or wait 2-3 days before opening day, which is still last minute compared to NYC and LA.

So there are other reasons why the movie did well Sunday besides word spreading.
