New Opinion On Black Panther Since it came out on Blu Ray

Black Panther came out Tuesday on Blu Ruy and I bought it....I've watched it twice and I saw it once in theaters....

first let me say I'm a huge CBMs fan, and Big MCU fan, I've liked to LOVED 17 of the 19 MCU films including Black Panther(I like it)

but after watching it Twice on Blu Ray, I've came to the conclusion it may be the most over hyped CBM of all time.

my Opinion on the movie is this....Its good, A Good Solo/Origin superhero film, With A Great Villain....I feel Black Panther goes right along side Captain America TFA, Thor and Ant-Man ...I dont feel its in the same league with Other Debuting SOLO/Origin films like Iron Man, GOTG or Doctor Strange...

IMO its a Solid 7.5 to 8/10

after watching it twice on Blu Ray....This CGI in This film is downright embarrassing...Almost every scene that Black Panther is in that hes actually fighting, He looks like a Completely CGI model, thats Rubbery and Awful....

during the final act of the movie, Its so bad, you actually get thrown in and out of completely CGI shots and Real shots where you can tell the difference...Not since the Matrix Reloaded where Neo Fights 500 Mr. Smiths has CGI been so Obvious and Cuts between Full CGI shots and Live action shots have been so Obvious

I got to believe something went very wrong in Post Production, quite frankly Kevin Fiege is better than this....I think something went badly wrong in post Production during the final act, and They either changed or didnt have enough time to fix or properly finish the CGI and Climax...

after watching it twice again....I just do not see any way this film deserved the LEVEL of Praise it receives, I'm not saying its doesnt deserve Praise or isnt good, I just feel IMO, There is no way this is a 97% RT type films....Or An "A+ cinemascore"...or 700 Million domestically...

If I watched them film and didnt know a thing about it, IMO I would have expected....75 to 82% on RT....and similar box office to Doctor Strange or Cap 2....

I think think 2 things has drastically caused this film to be Over Hyped...

1. this is 90% of it....The Cultural Impact, Nearly All Black cast, Black Superhero,Black Male Lead, Black Director, set almost entirely in African, this really has Become "The first Black Superhero film"(even though its not)

2. The Villain Is Fantastic and has one of the best motives in any CBM....I think a lot of people are blown away by the Villain and is over praising the entire movie based on an excellent villain

this is entirely 100% just MY Opinion....I'm in no way saying "I'm right" and every one else is wrong, all I'm doing is saying I personally dont feel the film should be as Praised as everyone else does....I recognize I'm clearly In a minority and Most everyone else thinks much better of the film...This is just my opinion...

PS I also think There are some very Great things in this movie...Including The Villain of course, The Soundtrack, and some incredible performances by actors especially Letitia Wright as Shuri(which May be one of my favorite characters in The entire MCU)

I agree. The action is very lacking. The acting on the other hand, is very good.

Oh, and to add something... I like how they hamdled the "all black" angle in this. This is not a blaxploiration at all. It's not even about black Americans, it's about Africans.

There were no "black pop culture" all around, e.g., no holding guns sideways, no talking an acting like a thug, no breakdancing (instead they instead do traditional African dance, which is refeshing), and no black women acting sassy.

Even Michael B. Jordan character, who is an African American, don't dress like typical style most often portrayed in other movies. He's just a man, no emphasis on his "blackness."
It's as if he can be changed into a white or Asian or Latino character and everythings would still be fine. Except that it can't because he's ultimately revealed to be a Wakandan.
When I watched the movie, I completely forgot about the "first black superhero movie" hype. Respect.

Yet another reason that BP was overpraised was that it came out in February, a traditional "dumping ground" time for bad and no-hope movies to be released all together. January is the same - all the studios release the big commercial films and Oscar hopefuls around the holidays, then there's usually nothing good until the summer action movie season begins to ramp up in April and May. Of course BP was released then to prepare for the coming of IW, but also because it'd have no competition.

So bear in mind that when this came out, none of the critics who reviewed it had seen a good movie in weeks, much less a total blast of an action movie!

So yeah, this is a good film rather than a great one. But IMHO sometimes i like the fun movies more than the great ones.

^ this sums up exactly as I feel....ONLY for me personally I would say its An Above Average to Good Film....

I think There are Levels....

Masterpiece
Great
Very Good
Good
Above Average
Average
Below Average
Bad
Awful

for BP hits directly in between Above Average and Good....

Given The Villain, and Performances, I have no problems calling it GOOD though..

reply

Hey, you forgot the degrees of bad below "awful"! There's "dreadful", "godawful", and "starring Pauly Shore"!

Butt I myself would put BP somewhere "good"and "very good".

reply

"Starring Pauly Shore?" is that above or below "Directed by Ed Wood or Al Adamson?"

reply

Definitely below "Directed by Ed Wood".

Ed Wood films are extremely entertaining, although not for the reasons Wood intended!

reply

An overhyped comic book movie? That's a first.

It was slightly above average in my opinion. I liked that it is its own movie, which was a nice change of pace, and the cultural aspects of it were the best part. They relied too much on CGI like most CMB's, but then again it is a CBM. I probably won't watch it again for a very long time. Amazing run at the box office though.
