The tragic death of Chadwick Boseman means Marvel may retire Black Panther in the comics permanently.
That's dumb. Honestly, it was pretty selfish of Boseman to conceal his cancer.
shareIt is dumb. NO reason the death of a movie star should cause a comic book character to be retired.
ON the other hand, you can't expect an actor to give up a role like that, especially at the end of his life.
I mean, ethically, when the whole idea is that you are going to keep playing the character for several movies, there is a good reason to give it up. I understand why he would be tempted not to, which is why I said it was selfish.

shareBut I'm not talking primarily about his employer--more about the fans. Especially in a case where it's a big deal for a lot of Black people. That makes it especially selfish to cause there to be far fewer Black Panther movies (that is, ones that actually star T'Challa) than if he had let someone else play the part.
shareFair point about the fans. In the past when I heard that point brought up, it was in teh context of the studios and all they invested.
I still am tempted to be sympathetic to a man facing a terminal diagnosis. I imagine if I was him, i would be thinking about what I would be leaving my wife.
Yeah. I wish there was a way for him to get the money but leave the role to someone else.
