I really liked the book and the 1994 version, but I don't even want to see this fiasco for free. I could be racking up major bucks in GTA Online or napping during the time it took to watch this dreck.

I understand.

Good to know, I love PlutoTV, but I doubt I will watch it. It doesn't look very good.

Here’s an update as I was watching it. They show only first two episodes for free. Now I understand why it’s free :))).

So far so good, it’s watchable! I think most people jumped on the hate bandwagon here. It’s not that bad! Yeah, it jumps from place to place in the timeline, but it’s not that bad. The production values are pretty spot-on for a tv movie...I liked the sight of the ruined NYC skyline, like skyscrapers on fire and smoke. Looked so real. The empty Central Park and the Bethesda fountain looked cool too. Acting is alright too. So not much to whine about, granted i’ve seen only two episodes so far.

2 Just curious Mr. Matrix, have you watched the 1994 series or read the book? If you have, what did you think of them?

reply

Hi Gary! Yes, I actually had seen the 1994 series and big fan of the original series and the book. I read the book as well. And I liked how the series followed the book closely (no surprise there since Stephen King wrote the script to the series himself as well).
I don’t mind that they decided to remake the series because as much as I liked the original it is not perfect either. There were a couple of interesting characters/storylines missing from the book ( I remember that, but I don’t remember what were they now since I’ve read the book around 20 years ago). I would like to see whether those characters were included this time - it’s possible since these new series are longer by time/episodes.

2 I'll keep an eye out for CBS to release the DVD/Blu-Ray of the re-make, and will very likely pick it up to add to my collection of this story. But, from what I've heard about it, from you and others, it is not nearly as good as the 1994 ABC effort.

I wonder how the folks that did not care for the first mini-series will like the re-make.
