Jacob Nighthorse questions, TV/Book *Pos/Spoilers*

I'm not sure if I missed something over the past few seasons and I'm curious.

Is Nighthorse Cheyenne? He doesn't live on the Rez, has no Cheyenne family that he speaks of and it doesn't look like he has any personal ties there.

He did built a Casino In WY, states he wants to help his people, did he mean specifically Cheyenne or Native Americans in general? He mentions to Cady he was raised by a white Woman. It's revealed he went to College on the East Coast real name is Blankenship.

I vaguely remember a conversation between him in Walt in an earlier season where Walt either alludes to the fact hes not Cheyenne but I could be wrong.

Is he in the books and if so is his characters background more fleshed out or kept a mystery?

I don't think they want us to know a lot about Jacob nighthorse, he is a huge mystery and we love that about him, But I do remember an episode where they surrounded longmire's house and he said that he represented all Tribes of the Indian Nation.

reply

He was raised by a "white woman" his words...and he isn't Cheyenne...he is the most mysterious man in the world and when he drinks he drinks Dos Equis.

Well, I would venture a guess that he is half native. Spoilers! If you have not seen season 5. But Malachi calls his a half breed, and a son of a white whore. So I would say it's safe to bet that he is either part white(most likely) or some other race. But not full native.
Not that that impedes any ability to help his people. And for the most part, he seems to be respected in the community and on the Rez. I think the writers are playing him close to their chests though. They want to keep him a mystery!!

To answer your other question, no his character is NOT in the books. He was concocted for the show.
Major props to A. Martinez for making a thoroughly wonderful and complicated character!

reply

I love his character, so glad they added him to the show!

I like the mystery I finally caught up with season 5 and heard Malachi say something like Nighthorse is only playing Indian.

When that story was going on about the blood quantum, I sort of figured his mother was a white woman, which he mentioned, and his father was of Indian decent, but not recent, so he did not meet the blood quantum for any tribe. But he identifies as Native American. But not with any tribe.

reply

Further proof that the 'blood quantum' or the requirements that need to be met, are purely subjective. Nighthorse is contributing to the tribe with jobs, wealth and stability. So to them, he is useful enough to ignore their 'oh so holy' blood purity. The catch 22 looks even worse from the opposite side:-/
