Fantastic acting but why the overt sexism?

As this series has gone on, the excellence of the acting keeps getting stronger. At first I was taken with Jones but Sharp and especially Bullmore are stealing the show.

There is one thing that is bothering me halfway through the second season - the sexism. Almost every male character is thinly drawn - they are mostly pathetic losers of limited intelligence and morality, clinging to the female character's pant legs.

I understand that the series was developed by women for women but I'm a male who loves the show; it just seems like a lost opportunity. For all the complaints from women about the sexism in male-dominated detective shows, Scott & Bailey can't help itself to go down that very same road, but this time with the men subjected to the sexism. Very weird.

I'll keep watching on Netflix because it is a fine series. Sure, the Bailey and Scott characters are pretty screwed up (esp Bailey) but they always come out heroic, even at their most needy and selfish. These characters would be much stronger and more admirable had they made better choices in men. Unfortunately for them, the creators of this show didn't allow that to happen.
