Season 3 is undeservedly maligned

While it is not as good as the first two seasons, the way that most have been complaining about it does not fit the crime at all. It is a good season and still better than 98% of what passes for entertainment on television these days.

I thought after the first two seasons it was the 2nd best TV show of all time. Then S3 came out and the reviews were bad so I didn't watch it until recently. I was very much pleasantly surprised. Maybe it is because my expectations were so low due to the criticisms that it seems good in comparison and everybody else saw it when it first came out and expectations were sky high.

I didn't think season 3 was bad; yeah, it wasn't as strong as 1 and 2, but I didn't dislike it.

This past season, though, season 4...wasn't very good. The quality of the show definitely declined.

Mustard goes on Hot Dogs. Mayo goes on Burgers. There will be no compromise on this.

reply

I disagree, Season 4 was outstanding

Season 3 went in a different direction and Frank was less in control and more prone to failure. The first time I saw season 3 it surprised me and I didn't enjoy it as much as the previous seasons.

It improves a lot on second watch because you know where the show is going and can focus more on the characters' developments, Doug in particular has a great arc in season 3.

Now that Frank and Claire have gotten back on track, their struggles in season 3 make more sense. It was about them finally gaining what they wanted and being unsure of how to hang onto it.

To me Dougs arc season 3 was godawful and brought the whole show down. Who thought him looking for one person all season long was a good idea? This should have been half a season at the most.

reply

yes, we all yeild to your surpreme judgement and allmighty sensibilities. we;re wrong, you're right. some day Kevin Spacey is going to realize what a terrible mistake it was to not hire you and let you write the show for them. it would have been so much gooder.

She already "died" in the car crash. Why did she need to go on for another few episodes and die twice? They just didn't know what else to do with Doug that season. It was total filler.

reply

Although possible the first death was meant to be the real one. The Rachel actress already has admitted they wrote her on an episode by episode basis. Should have stuck to the original plan.

Oh yes, how dare anyone express a personal opinion on a personal opinion forum. The horror!

Frank and wife fight all the time.
Doug looks for one person all season long.
All interesting season 2 stories basically on stand by.

Season 3 was okay at best. I felt it missed the mark a lot.
