Fairly new viewer...question

Hi, I began the show a couple weeks ago and am now on season 2 episode 5. I love it and think it's brilliant.

My question involves Peter Russo. When Frank first got the idea of him running, I believe in Chapter 5...was he planning on setting him up to fail the entire time? So he could make his way to the VP seat? Or did he get the idea to screw him when Peter threatened to publicize the whole thing with Kern and Kapernick?

I wanna say it was always his intention from the start to have him fail so Matthews could run and the VP chair would be left open...what are your guys thoughts?

Please no spoilers! Thank you!

reply

It was always Frank's intention for Russo's gubernational race to fail.

reply

Frank needed Peter to fail. It was his intention from the start.

reply

What? But he really wanted the Watershed Bill to pass and if it did then Pete Russo would have been on the road to being Governor. How could it have been Frank's plan to have Russo fail all along if he was genuinely furious about Pete Russo's gambit failing because of the votes that Claire didn't get for him.

reply

Having now finished the series AND rewatched it, I believe that whether the bill passed or not, Frank knew he would be able to drive Peter to drink again because of who he is, and in doing so would have sabotaged it either way.

"Kapernick"? Haha I think you must have football on the brain.

reply

I think he was referring to Catherine Durant.

reply

No, I'm sure it was in reference to Roy Kapeniak.

reply

Yes ... Franks plan from Get Go was to turn PA Gov race into fiasco and convince sitting VP; whom frank knew felt unappreciated; to resign to save the day and go back to the job he really wanted.

Frank has been playing long game since day 1.

Another tip .. dont come on site that has a series through season 4 and not expect to get some spoilers.

I Binged all 4 seasons in like 3.5 weeks.

reply

Yeah thanks, when I came on her I specifically avoided all posts and went right to making a new one as to not see any spoilers. I have since finished the show and watched it a second time.
