Original Blade Runner: if he is a blade runner, why is the detective explaining replicants to him?

Bryant is not talking about all replicants, just the nexus 6 types. Which people have explained that since Deckard is retired at the beginning of the film, he never encountered such replicants before. There is still the problem of the opening text which states that blade runners were created in response to a Nexus 6 mutiny. So he should have fought them before. I think it was exposition for the audience being said to the wrong character.

If I recall correctly Bryant is only briefing Deckard on the case, showing him their mugshots, names and their abilities (Roy is a combat model, Pris is a pleasure model, etc) and explaining to him the differences of the new Nexus 6 models with the previous Nexus's.

These ones in particular are able to develop their own emotions... that's the reason they come to Earth, looking for more life since they don't want to die... perhaps the previous models had longer lifespans but even though they lived let's say 10 or 20 years they did not mind death.

Bryant doesn't tell Deckard what a replicant is, just what a Nexus 6 is since he's been out of the force for a while.

The intro says that a mutiny of nexus 6 was the reason for the creation of the blade runners. It's exposition to a character who should already know since his job only existed because of them
