I’m in total agreement. Although, the seemingly uninteresting story in the original is gripping in its own right and full of mystique (as the sequel is).

I agree, I really liked this movie but obviously it's not for everyone and I'm not gonna try and sway people's opinions, but I think it's up their with The Godfather Part II, Judgement Day and Empire Strikes Back as the best examples of sequels expanding on the original rather that just giving it the Jaws 2 or Home Alone 2 treatment.

Though I still haven't seen the original, I still loved 2049. The acting, story, and cinematography were all great.

I saw it today for the first time and liked it too. Visually it's reminiscent of the original and I enjoyed the bleak tone of it. Also enjoyed the added elements to the story of the replicants. The story drags on for a bit in the first third of the film until it picks up momentum later, culminating in a satisfying conclusion. 7 out of 10.
