What's with the Ave Maria

Was there a significance to this playing throughout the film?

I don't know how intentional it is, but it's used often as part of penance, and I think that a prayer seeking forgiveness (pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death) is fitting given the themes of the film. We have Riddler who is obsessed with punishing the "wicked" and corrupt (in his eyes). We have a Batman who describes himself as "vengeance". These themes are brought more into focus later on with a couple plot points I don't want to spoiler for anybody reading. I can elaborate if you like.

Also, it does fit with the gothic architecture and the sombre atmosphere. When Wayne tower looks like a cathedral and we visit an actual cathedral for a funeral, and we have the demonic Batman and so forth, yeah, I think even just in terms of "vibe" it fits.

Ahhhh. And that fits with the tolling bell as well.

Plus, Batman has always been a bit of a gargoyle: a dark monster cursed/sworn to protect others, looming from on high. There's a lot of church imagery that works with Bats.

Nope no meaning. Just a cool goth song in somebody's playlist.
