Mia Goth deserves an oscar for her monologue at the end

Cause that was one of the most impressive one shot performances i've ever seen from an actor, i believe she went 9 minutes straight without a single cut away from her face and delivered every word perfectly and nailed the emotion throughout it. I can't even imagine how much talent it takes to pull off what she did in that scene.

Just a shame her performance wont be recognized cause its a horror movie, meanwhile stuff like Wakanda Forever can get nominations for its actors even though its a super hero popcorn movie.....But its got an agenda to push so it gets the pass.

Rebecca Hall gave a great monologue in Resurrection (2022) as well, I've seen hers reported as being seven or even eight minutes long.

From googling it seems Mia Goths monologue is reported as being nine minutes long.

Not sure which one I prefer.

Also yes, it's well known horror gets looked down upon by awarding bodies.

reply

Yeah i'll never understand why they can award comedies, drama, super hero movies, action movies, but horror is looked at like its smut or something.

Now some horror is like smut and just a gore reel or cheap jump scares, but damn it horror films that actually have amazing performances in it like Mia Goth's in Pearl it should be acknowledged, it shouldn't be overlooked and looked down upon just cause its got the horror genre under it, the performance should be what matters not what genre the movie is in.

Rebecca Hall is another one that gets snubbed from awards despite all her brilliant performances cause shes in the horror genre, like her performance in The Night House, doesn't even matter or get glanced at cause its a horror movie.

The awarding bodies love scrubbing the horror tag of the films they choose to embrace, they often become 'psychological thrillers', a 'dark drama/fantasy' or heaven forbid it has some comedy elements then it becomes an outright 'comedy'.

Sometimes you even get the filmmakers themselves saying their film isn't a horror film.

You can also look at the whole 'elevated horror' bullshit going on now. So many people just outright look down on the genre and this hipster term is for films that are so blatantly horror that it can't be argued against but supposedly they're 'actually good films' unlike the rest of the genre. It winds me up. Horror fans ashamed of liking the genre! Pretentious wankers.

Horror is the master genre.

Reminded me of Isabelle Adjani's performance in Possession (1981). She gives a mostly campy over the top performance, but throws in an Oscar worthy monologue. Adjani would have 2 Oscar nominations in her career so there is hope for Mia.

And an Oscar for holding that crazy smile and almost not blinking for the entire credits

I had heard people say this when it came out and thought it was just overhyped but I just watched it and...yeah. That was fantastic. Mia Goth hit it out of the park.

It’s honestly not hard; I literally talk to myself that way just more intensely sometimes.

Cuckoo! Cuckoo!

The monologue was so cringey and self-indulgent that it made the one America Ferrera gives at the end of Barbie look brilliant by comparison.

Lol ok bud.

I’m having a hard time with this thread. I can’t tell if people genuinely liked her monologue or if they’re joking. The movie was an absolute mess, so I’m guessing that it’s sarcasm.
