Not sure what the complaint is here. Those who attain high ranks in the Russian Navy or the KGB tend to be middle-aged men. Middle-aged actors who get cast as leads tend to be those who have been working a long time. Longevity in a career tends to mean that one is good at what one does even if this means one attained some level of recognition in the 1990s.
