If it were an English language accent adjusted to suit an English language film (ex: If an Australian plays an American, then I expect an American accent) that would make sense. These are Americans playing Russians in an English language film. Why on Earth would having Russian accents help? It has never helped an English language film about Russians (K-19). And, I don't think anyone is angry about Dr. Zhivago (Omar Sharif is Egyptian and he was playing a Russian and had an English accent).
