Man, I just can't watch Matt Damon movies

Sure. Fair criticism. I'm always aware i'm watching Matt Damon. Now if it's a busy movie with a lot going on, like the Bourne films, I hardly notice. But if it's the Martian and he's just sitting there by himself, it's hard to miss. I like Matt Damon so it doesn't bother me. I totally get it when people say they're not a fan. This film was interesting cause Bale as usual does an amazing job, but there's Matt just hanging out being a movie star. The difference between the two is pretty striking.

Like the TandyMan said, Bale's character (Ken Miles) is the key here... Although Damon is better able to hide is Matt Damonness in this one...

To me Matt damon owned his roles in Good Will Hunting and the Bourne films so completely that I can only see him as those characters. Otherwise I just see Matt Damon on the screen. That being said he does an EXCELLENT job! With this movie and the Ocean's movies I thoroughly enjoyed him in the roles he played.
