stopped watching after season 7

Does it get better after S7? Stop watching because lets be honest Jenny Lee, Chummy and Sister Evangelina were the characters to watch. I know they dropped out earlier than S7, but none of the current characters are really that likeable. Tried to continue watching it but it became a bore.

It was getting boring for me around season 7 more so than other ones. Their is some episodes I liked. I have stopped watching. All of my favorite midwives and Peter have left. The character development and storytelling is not as good in my opinion. Not as many episodes are consistent in being good like in earlier seasons. I could watch different characters filtering in and out if the story telling was as good like it use to be. I don't get as emotional or get into the characters as I use to.

I miss Sr Evangeline and Chummy, but I have never missed Jenny. She was such a mopey, whiney character and imo the replacements were so much better.

Sr. Monica Joan has always been my favorite. I also love Trixie and was very glad when she returned. I have enjoyed all the new midwives, esp. Val, Phyllis, Lucille, and Patsy. Honestly, all the replacement midwives have been excellent (and way better than Jenny).

I agree. The Jenny Lee actress just couldn’t bring the emotion. I didn’t realize this until she left and I didn’t miss her at all. I only started actually tearing up at episodes and really connecting with the storylines after Jenny left. I’m only on season 6 and I still enjoy it.

I agree about Jessica Raine. She also ruined Jericho for me, and was pretty dire in Partners in Crime. I can’t imagine how she was cast in the otherwise exceptional Wolf Hall.

reply

I’ve seen Wolf Hall twice and didn’t make the connection! Probably because she’s merely a supporting player rather than the supposed lead as in Call the Midwife. So much great going on in WH she was overshadowed and her shortcomings weren’t as noticeable at least to me. Clearly she made no impression on me though. I haven’t seen her in anything else so have no idea if she improved.

I have to say that I don't miss Jenny either, despite the fact that she supposedly was the protagonist.
But it happens sometimes that the supposed protagonist of a show with an ensemle cast isn't that interesting.

reply

I liked Jenny, but everyone has their faves.

No, S8+9 recycle earlier stories in less interesting ways. They get new midwives with no personality. One newish main character that I liked, leaves. A main character returns but is just there in the background.
