The photographs (spoilers)

Lore buries two photos: One is a photo of Vati, her father, in his uniform and the other is one she tore from the wall where the allied forces had posted photos of the concentration camps. Was the man in the latter photo Vati? Or, did Lore recognise the uniform, realising it was the same as that worn by her father?

Initially I thought she recognised her father in the photo torn from the wall but it's occurred to me since that it might have been the uniform she recognised and then she worked out what her father had been involved in that resulted in his and Mutti's arrests.

it appeared to me that the SS officer in the concentration camp photo really was lore's father, but it was hard to tell. the emotional import is the same either way: the photo suggests that lore's parents were (at least indirectly) responsible for the nazi atrocities.

I recognised Vati in the photo as did Lore that is why she buried it. It was only then she realised what her father had been involved in.

I took it that she indeed recognised her father and then she buries the photos to protect herself and her siblings from their parents involvement in the Nazi atrocities.

Lore's father Peter had the Totenkopf badge in his right collar so he was part of the SS-Totenkopfverbände, the SS unit responsible for the concentration camps. His military rank was Sturmbannführer (i.e. Major). However, I thought that Lore only imagined her father to be in that picture and became distraught, realizing his father had been part of those atrocities.

I got the impression she thought it could be him, without being definitely sure.
