Amanda Seyfried turned down role of Gamora in Guardians Of The Galaxy; thought the movie would bomb
"Amanda Seyfried had the chance to play Gamora in Guardians Of The Galaxy but turned the role down.
On Friday the 35-year-old Mamma Mia! actress said she 'didn't want to be part of the first Marvel movie that bombed,' as she spoke on the The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast.
Acknowledging that in retrospect her thoughts on the film's ultimate success were 'very wrong,' - as it went on to gross nearly $773M at the box office - she cited self-preservation as the root of her decision.
'I said, "Who wants to see a movie about a talking tree and a raccoon?" Which is clearly - I was very wrong,' she told host Scott Feinberg.
'The script was great, it was all based in not wanting to be "that guy,"' she said.
She continued, 'If you are the star of a giant movie like that, and it bombs, Hollywood does not forgive you. I've seen that happen to people and it was a giant, giant fear and I thought, is it worth it?'
