Seriously, what bet did Matt Damon lose that he had to be in this movie?

I will say this, I'm not a fan of sci fi. When I first saw this trailer in the theaters, I was floored at how terrible it looked. It's one of those moments that my husband and I looked at each other and said, oh hell no are we going to see that.

Matt Damon's a good actor, this might be some visionary director, but this movie looks RIDICULOUS and a big waste of time. And an even big money loser. Seriously, Matt Damon, why?

I was also wondering the same thing, this is really weird is he down on his luck already

He bet Hillary would win. 😉

good one lol

now how can anyone say these message boards are useless?

It's not sci fi. Matt Damon lost his faux liberal OUTRAGE as soon as he saw the paycheck.

Big money loser? You're an idiot. This is gonna make huge money overseas

China wants to make its name as the next Holywood (perhaps even bigger) so they're either paying so much money for American actors to star in their films or promote them in China. Take Michael Bay for example. He's a big success there. He does not even care for the west now. Simon Pegg became one of those celebs who have found huge fandom in China after Star Trek (btw they loved Star Trek Beyond there... If you noticed the film is Chinese made completely).

So yes it's the big money. China has money. Have you seen their terrible Mad Max Rip off? All they need now is some creativity.

Matt Damon also said he wanted to work with Zhang Yimou, which I can actually believe because Zhang has made some truly great films. It's just too bad he's become such an inconsistent filmmaker who can get carried away with CGI spectacles.

Star Trek Beyond made much less in China than it did in N. America, though, and saying it was completely funded by China is a load of crap. Warcraft is a better example of a movie that they went crazy for over there. That Mad Max ripoff looks like the same thing as those Asylum VOD ripoffs, so I doubt many people are watching that.

I think there is creativity in Chinese film, but with the exception of Stephen Chow, those movies seem to exist more on the independent side and outside of the mainstream.

Perhaps because the film is a Fantasy ... not sci-fi?

reply

Now the trailer looks awesome! Thanks for clearing that up with our Fantasy glasses now on.
