I'm confused, they fighting dragons? Is this supernatural like 47 Ronins

The trailer seems to tease that they are. Purposefully misdirective?

They are some sort of reptile monster army.. or whatever.

This movie basically tries to make the battle of Helm's Deep from LoTR become an entire movie, replacing the Elves with mythic-style warriors, the Great Wall with the LoTR location, and orcs with lizard dudes.

But instead of trying to get a powerful Ring and take over the world for an evil dark overlord... apparently these lizard things just show up like clockwork. Very conveniently.

Throw in a few World War Z-style mob attacks, and you have your movie.

They're dragons. This is a fantasy film, which is why the tripe about whitewashing and white Matt Damon coming in to save The Great Wall in some kind of historical depiction of a battle with the Huns or something like that was foolish from the beginning. How anybody seeing the very first trailer for The Great Wall, watching something fly to the top of the wall and grab a Chinese soldier with claws, could think the film was anything other than a fantasy film is beyond me.

This film is doing well Overseas and will be released in America on February 17th. So far the film has grossed $203.9 million Overseas and only $167 million is from China. The rest of the $203.9 million comes from other countries, including France and Germany.

They're monsters that came to earth on a "comet" that landed thousand years ago so they are actually of alien origin.
