Will this make video game movies HUGE???

We all know most video game movies are terrible. But from what I've heard this is great. What I'm wondering is could this make video game movies as big as comic book movies? I've been predicting for a while that one video game movie would be great and make a ton of money. The same thing happened with superhero movies a few years ago. I'd love if this launches a plethora of video game adaptations.

Woah there, we won't know the reception of this until the embargo ends tomorrow, okay? I wish that there'll be a good video game movie one day but they have to prove that they can do them right though. Besides, there are far more people excited for Rogue One right now than Assassin's Creed. Assassin's Creed is only opening in 3000 theatres, so there's no way that'll do the same numbers as Rogue One, which opened in 4000 theatres.

reply

Where did you see the 3000 venues number? I've been trying to confirm theater count so I can make a decent opening weekend box office prediction.

reply

If you want to know the theatre count of any movie, just check the Box Office Mojo site and go to the "Release Schedule" page:

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/schedule/

Assassin's Creed has already been estimated to gross $30 million over it's first five days of opening.

reply

Thanks. It wasn't updated last time I checked. I can't believe it's getting fewer screens than Passengers.

reply

Don't worry about it getting fewer screens than Passengers. It's already projected to have a bigger opening than Passengers but whether it can keep up those numbers also depends on how well it is received by both critics and audiences (poor critic reviews can cause a lot of people to ignore it) but we'll see.

reply

Yeah, so anxious to see how the reviews come in. Embargo lifts tomorrow...

reply

I still have a feeling this movie is gonna bring video game movies to the Marvel movies level.

reply

This could've been very huge if they pushed the release date a week ahead, just one. cause star wars is a massive movie and assassin's creed can't keep up with it because the bad reputation of game movies, star wars made 155 Millions WTF

reply

Be patient. Opening low due to a poor reputation is one thing but being a bit leggy due to good reviews and good word of mouth is quite another. This movie's success depends on getting good reviews from critics. Good reviews could help it while poor reviews could kill it. Either way, we'll see tomorrow. Also, it's only opening in January in the UK, so there's that.

reply

Maybe, i hope you're right

reply

I said, if it does get good reviews, I'm not 100% certain that it will.

reply

I think Assassin's Creed can top star wars in world wide box office

reply

No it won't. In fact, Rogue One is way more buzz globally than Assassin's Creed. I'm in South Africa and I'm going to see Rogue One on Tuesday. Assassin's Creed has actually been rated 16 and up here by the Film And Publication's Board, despite it being PG 13 in America, which is a pity because I can't go see it with cousin's son (which I thought about doing because he has played the games) when I see go stay with them over the Christmas week.

reply

In my courtry every movie which touches the theme of war goes 16+. Which is really, really fcked up. Rogue One was rated 16+. They even rated Dunkirk 16+ already, which comes out next Summer!

There is some really weird age restriction politics in some countries.

Nolan, I love you forever!

reply

Wich country is that? It realy sounds the opposite of the Netherlands ( almost every movie gets a lower age rating here xD )

reply

Yeah, I've heard that in Netherlands rating system works better. It's Russia. Here we've get pretty much all war movies automatically 16+-ed even before the MPAA rating is announced.
