Potential sequels

In March 2016, Daphne Yang, CEO of the film's Taiwanese co-financier CatchPlay, stated that New Regency was looking to turn the film into a franchise, since it is based on "successful Ubisoft games and would make ideal sequels."[65] Two additional films are planned, with the first sequel entering development during the production of the initial film.[66] Kurzel told Premiere that he would like to explore the Cold War in the sequel.

Found this on Wiki. I hope it's true as I think sequels would answer questions and offer consistency that a 2hr movie can't make from 6 continues games (I'm guessing the number from my husbands collection) I hope they find more Assassins though or bring in established game characters. At the end of the movie I counted only three left.

The fact that Ubisoft is shouldering a sizeable portion of the financial burden could be bolstering the chances of a sequel. In terms of plot, this would be an easy movie to make a sequel for.

It would be interesting to see if they would really go with the early Cold War setting or not. Most likely, a higher percentage of screen time of the sequel, if it happens, would be spent on the past.

There would probably be expanded efforts to draw parallels between the movie's assassins and those of the games. For example, the way they had Lin replicate much of Shao Jun's fighting style might be tried with other characters in terms of skills and maybe personality to some degree.

I hope they have taken in the audiences demand for more past then present. But we already now have present day characters that have to carry the narrative. I just hope for a more equal balance between past and present with a little more care in character and plot development for consistency.

I hope your right about the fighting styles. I loved the fights in the film. I even enjoyed the parallel they showed with Agulier and Cal imitating him with the animus.

I wonder whether it would be better to go with the early Cold War idea or try another premodern period of time. It seems like doing something in Southeast Asia with the ancestor part could work very well. If going back before 1492 would not be a problem, the founding of the Angkor Empire would be very interesting, as would that empire during the height of its power. There would be various religious, political, and social tensions that could play out in the Templar-Assassin struggle.

The Cold War would be unusual for Assassin's Creed but could be interesting too if handled right.

They could even try having the past sequences focus on Sofia using the Animus and experiencing the point of view of a Templar character. That probably would be too risky in terms of audience reaction and so is unlikely. Maybe it would work in a third movie, if they do end up reaching a trilogy.
