How much would lack of subtitles ruin the movie?

So I really want to go see this movie (despite all the bad reviews it's getting etc.), the problem is, I only have the option of seeing it with subtitles that I do not understand (the original english subtitles for the spanish scenes are taken out, as the whole movie is subbed in a different language).

I would love to be able to watch a version where the english subs are there for the spanish scenes, but I can't where I am at the moment....so, anyone who's seen it, is there crucial dialogue in the spanish scenes, or would I still be able to follow it?

A considerable majority of the movie takes places in the present. In many of the Spanish scenes, you can tell much about what is going on just be watching events and perhaps catching the meaning of a few Spanish words. While it would detract from the experience to some degree (like how they try to tie the modern and premodern Templar goals together), a lot of what goes on during the past scenes is commented on by the modern characters.

If you have played the games, you probably will recognize what is happening in the opening scene. The Spanish scenes are very combat heavy.

Thanks for the reply :D

Did watch it earlier and it was fine.
(also, liked it quite a bit, not sure how the reactions can be THAT negative)

Glad to hear that it worked for you and also that you liked it! I kind of remember some of what was said during the Spanish scenes if you have any questions

I can list 2 big problems:
1. Too much time spent in the present day and not nearly enough in the past.
2. And my God, those fast cut scenes between fight scenes in the past and Cal dancing in the Animus in the present were horrendous, killing any sense of urgency transmitted by the action.
Glad you liked the movie, but for me was a missed opportunity for something truly great.
Also, the omnipresent fog and bleak colors didn`t helped the movie.
