Do you think this will flop hard?

- Premieres only 1 week after Star Wars comes out.
- Premieres the same day as Passengers which stars 2 of the biggest names in Hollywood right now.
- Movies based on video games have a reputation of being bad so will scare people off.

Anyone else thinking the studio should REALLY rethink the release date for this movie?

Have you ever noticed that the people who say "DC is for adults and Marvel is for kids", are kids?

They should have released this bitch in January. It's either stupidity or hubris (let's go with both) that led to the release date.

The villainy you teach me I will execute-and it shall go hard but I will better the instruction.

It's the games mythology which led to this release date. December, 21 is a known date for all AC fans.

Nolan, I love you forever!

1 most people go to more movies a month

2 and yes star Wars will beat this movie

3 this movie gonna come in second right behind star Wars in terms of succes and money

reply

With Sing and Passengers, this won't even be one of the top 2 movies released on December 21st.

But I could imagine it being the 4th highest grossing film of December, worldwide.

@Ninja_coola:
Could you have been more wrong, bitch ? Jesus, remember when you said this would be at 80% on rotten tomatoes and called me a punk? Not only were you wrong about that but you were very wrong about it getting 2nd place. It's crazy how WRONG you were! Don't you think?

Depends on reviews. Fans will turn out but mainstream audiences need that extra reassurance. I say it opens to $23million

You missed one thing: this movie is said to cost $130-$200 million dollars. That means conventional wisdom would say it needs $260-$400 just to break even.

The problem with making a movie like Assassin's Creed, and then failing to generate hype outside of the core audience, is that if you make the budget reasonably fitting to the audience that will show up (say, $60-$100 million) then you just won't have the money to properly make the film.

And I think it's getting harder and harder to market video game movies to general audiences as more and more of them fail on a critical and financial level.

The best this can really hope for is if it's just going to be used as a very expensive advertisement campaign. But again.. in order for it to do that, it needs to appeal to people who wouldn't have bought the next video games regardless.

That's exactly Ubisoft's intention. They put a lot of money into this product, knowing full well the small chance of it succeeding financially. The idea is to make a good movie to set up a strong name, allowing future projects to generate lots of profit. They have to take this - dare I say it - leap of faith looool to get to a successful movie business later on.

Well......I got my answer.

With a family film like Sing I knew this was wrong the moment I read it.
But alas....it wasn't even 3rd.
