New Video Game Adaptations

What games/franchise/concept would you like to be made into a movie?

I think the best thing for video game adaptations is to create a new story, or at least not to recreate a previous game.
I feel that this is the reason that most of these movies fail and have terrible scripts, which effects EVERYTHING.
If not that, they stray to far from the source material.
And if not that, they play "inside baseball" and only cater to the fans and don't explain anything to the audience.

Movies that directly recreate a game:Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,DOA: Dead or Alive, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life

Movies that stray to far:Street Fighter, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, Super Mario Bros (SHUDDER), Angry Birds, DOOM, House of the Dead, House of the Dead 2, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Need for Speed, ALL Resident Evil films, ALL Underworld films

Movies that are "inside baseball": Warcraft:The Beginning, Assassins Creed, Hitman, Hitman: Agent 47, Ratchet and Clank

Movies that worked in one form of another for whatever reason (All under 7/10 for me 😢): Mortal Kombat, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Hitman: Agent 47, Warcraft: The Beginning, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, Angry Birds, Assassins Creed

Video game I would like to see become movies along with some ideas:

Metroid
PG

The Legend of Zelda
PG-13 (Like LotR) or PG (More for kids)

Uncharted
PG-13

Prince of Persia
PG-13
Based on the 2008 Ubisoft game of the same name

Halo
PG-13 or R (If the flood's in it it needs to be R)
Based on the Halo: Fall of Reach novel preferably

Bioshock
R or PG-13 (Only if based on Bioshock: Infinite)

God of War
R

Gears of War
R

Red Dead Redeption
R

How about you?
PS-Sorry it so long, but this is very interesting to me.

Bioshock or Halo would both have to be R to be done right. How can you recreate the atmosphere of Bioshock with pg13? Games that are rated M for mature should be rated R. Personally I'd like a film based off call of duty, either modern warfare, advanced warfare or black ops, but it would have to be R. Also a movie off grand theft auto 4, around 3 hours long with a hard R rating would be great

Years ago a saints row movie was in production but the company decided it would have to be pg13 and the writers dropped out of the project bcuz it wouldn't work. It was supposedly being written for a very hard R. Also halo has been in development hell for years, peter Jackson was attached to direct and the original script leaked online they were definitely going for an R rating. I would do Halo the way the games did and start with the first one, maybe ending it with getting the Cartographers Map then doing Halo 2 and come back a few years later with Fall of Reach

Bioshock Infinite was rated M, but barely warranted the rating. It was mostly during the day, with robots, vs the first two at night with demons, zombies and stuff. Infinite was not very gory, you can still recreate thrills and creepiness with a PG-13. Do it like Lord of the Rings gore/creepy, those were plenty gory enough. And Halo really is only M because of the Flood, I said if it is based off the book I mentioned, it is mostly about Chief and other Spartan II's, with no Flood, not a whole lot of combat, just enough. More of a sci-fi movie versus a action movie.

Yeah I would LOVE to have P.J. have done Halo WAAAAY back in the early 2000's when it was originally planned. Its been in development hell FOREVER. I don't think Saints Row has anywhere NEAR the story a movie should have. Nor does it appeal to me LOL.

CoD: Black Ops would be fun, just cut out BO3, the story was ruined.

I think that the movies should be different from the games, just recreating, or retelling does not work very well for these movies. Prince of Persia was LITERALLY the same as the game of the same name. That may have been the best video game adaptation, but it still was terrible. I feel the stories in games work mostly because YOU are the player, taking the game play feature out of it takes away a lot of the fun from the movie.

Thank you for sharing your opinion though, most people wouldn't read something that long, or just comment stupid things without thinking.

PG13 Bioshock?? LMAO you fail...

Have you played Bioshock Infinite? It is not a horror game like the first two. It a an action adventure game with shooter elements.

There are already many Red Dead Redemption films.

They need to stop trying. It's one thing for a book to be translated to film, but video games are they're own genre. Like books, they take hours to complete. Trying to compress all that into 2 hours is already a failure.
