Justin Kurzel was the wrong man for this.

Just watched his filmography, and hasn't directed any movies that can consider to be a hit in the box office. His previous movie Macbeth was critical acclaimed, but flopped in the box office. I honestly think Paul Anderson and Michael Bay would have done a better job.

Michael Bay - too expensive and would demand autonomous control, something the studios are unlikely to give.

Paul Anderson - fairly priced but also too seasoned to not demand a level of control be relinquished to him.

When we see directors like this helm movies it's usually because they're cheap and pliable.

Colin Trevorrow with Jurassic World, is another good example. Assassin's Creed looks decent though! Might be his first HIT and then all this would be a small bump in a dazzling body of work.

I seriosly doubt this will break the box office, but time will tell.

The timing is worrisome. It's competing with Star Wars. I'm a diehard Fassbender fan so I'm rooting for it

If the budget was 90-100 million, than I think it would have a chance. But 190 million? That's just insanse!

reply

$190??! Shut da hell up! $190???!

reply

Last time I checked wiki, it was 190 million. So the real budget number is 125 million?

reply

According to boxofficemojo, the production budget is 125 million, which means that this movie needs to make 250 million to break even. I think it has decent chances.

125 million.
I'd say it has decent chances to break even, but it will not be a huge hit.

We'll just have to wait and see I guess

That's more than the budget for Captain America Civil War. Ok so I checked and it's $125 million. But factoring in marketing it's still an obese budget.

I think studios these days are being run like car companies. Like who was the disconnected arrogant suit that commisioned the Pontiac Aztek 15 years ago...how does one even explain that? I think it's happening to movies now. Just pluck almost a quarter billion bucks in this movie, cos .. video games. Yes. Video games. Could've been done for $75 mil.

Michael bay :no
We don't want any explosions in Assassin's Creed
