Is anything not made by Disney successful with critics?

Not defending this film or anything cause I haven't seen it but the latest trend is that films produced by Disney get rave reviews like Marvel comic flicks, Star Wars or live adaptations like Jungle book and $hit

Critics are by definition useless turds but are they bribed by Disney?

If $hit was worth something poor people would be born with no a$$hole-Reggie Hammond

Disney films get weak reviews too. If anything the main difference is Marvel and Star Wars don't have to do much world building.

reply

Um...star wars has amongst the most sohphiscated worldbuilding of any fictional world

Jedha is more intricate and interesting worldbuilding than the worldbuilding of this movie

reply

My point was people already accept the Star Was universe.

So they didn't shell out for the Lone Ranger?

Jackass.

reply

Yes they are. And all of this is calculated. When people started to find out, they've sacrificed Alice Through The Looking Glass to "show" that critics are not depending on their logo in the beginning of the movie, which is not true.

reply

So you're saying that's why Warcraft got bad reviews too? Okay cool.

"You'll have to speak up I'm wearing a towel"

reply

No Warcraft wasn't expected to be a commercial success so there was no point for Disney to bustle about. While Assassin's Creed, when acclaimed critically, could have cause a serious damage to their Rogue One in box-office.

reply

Bwhahahahaa! That's some funny crap, kid.

reply

It wasn't written by you, so no, it's not some funny crap, old man.

Nolan, I love you forever!

reply

Put down the crack pipe, kid.

reply

I do NOT smoke anything, old man.

Nolan, I love you forever!

reply

Well, you must be getting "hight" somehow.

reply

I'm talking with you, which is even better than smoking I guess.

Nolan, I love you forever!

reply

Living the hight life, huh.

reply

Any life is better than yours, dummy.

Nolan, I love you forever!

reply

Never gonna reach the "hights" of your crowning utopia, huh.

reply

It's actually true. Look back at the life you have (which I would rather call just existing), and you'll find out that no sarcasm in the world will save you from it.

Nolan, I love you forever!

reply

At least I can spell "high", kiddo. Ignorance for you isn't just bliss, it's lucrative, right.

reply

I don't see another way of interacting with beings like you rather than full-on my ignorance so I could at least resemble the inhabitants of your lowlands.

Nolan, I love you forever!

reply

That one is total gibberish, kiddo. You aren't cut out for this, trust me. No wonder you think crap is gold.

reply

If you'll write this phrase again I will add you to my ignore list and take away the amusing opportunity to talk to someone with IQ above average, cause there is no single person remained on this boards who wants to talk to you anymore.

Nolan, I love you forever!

Another non-reply. Awwww, am I using words too big for GT. Hightly intelligent, heh.

Take it easy with the conspiracy theories, I know this is supposed to be a joke and all but still...

I just giggled the milk out of my nose. Ah, you see through this complex plot to "buy" reviews, do you? If the "critics are bribed" conspiracy theories are correct, how do you answer the following questions? I've tried this a few times, and no-one's even attempted to answer me yet, but hope springs eternal.

-- How do "they" determine which movies to prop up and which ones to "allow" to be buried? Disney has several big-budget critical flops in its fairly recent past (Pirates 4, Mars Needs Moms, John Carter, The Lone Ranger, just to name four). Seems like a weird strategy. What's their methodology?

-- Do other studios pay off critics or just Disney? If others do it, does that mean bidding wars for good/bad reviews are going on every day? If so, why did Disney "allow" the Harry Potter movies to get strong reviews? Did Warner Brothers just outbid them?

-- Over 200 professional critics typically write reviews for a wide release. Are you telling me that not a single one of them has broken ranks on this conspiracy? That's some pretty impressive control. Don't you think? Not a single one has ever had a fit of conscience and come clean about being bribed?

-- And, in the end, to credibly support a theory like this, you need actual evidence besides "Movie X was great even though critics hated it!" So, let's hear it, chum. It's time to blow the whistle.

reply

The "trend" is non-existent. Films from all studios get all kinds of reviews. Non-Disney mainstream films that got overall positive reviews include Deadpool (20th Century Fox), Ghostbusters (Sony), The Secret Life of Pets (Universal), Arrival (Sony) and Fantastic Beasts (Warner Bros).

reply

I agree. It's not a Disney only trope.

reply

Yep, there were plenty of non Disney movies that got good reviews.
