Just stop, there's a fundemental flaw adapting this genre!

I knew this was going to be stinker when Warcraft tanked critically. Even with decent directors, they can't seem to deliver a good film, and that's telling something.

Video games just aren't meant for filmed adaptation.

This will be the only comment or reply you'll get. Like I give a sh!t about YOUR interwebz opinion.

I disagree. They don't need respected directors, they need a director that knows how to adapt a story.

reply

Forget the director, the writers are the main concerns. A lot of people disagree with me when I say Silent Hill was good, but to me that was a good example of a director and writer translating a game world to a film world

reply

Gotta disagree. Take away the puzzle elements, the skill tree, upgradable weapons, boss fights and so forth and the story is all that's left and a lot of games have great stories

Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock 1 and Infinite, and God of War 1 all have great stories that can translate. Gears of War might work but only if they gave it a "Predator/Starship Troopers" treatment

reply

So? What is the fundamental flaw?

reply

This mythos in particular has several problems as a film

This form of storytelling creates an inactive protagonist that is largely an observer of an already dead vessel whose only function in the plot is to give a clue to a mystery that serves no point in the story till the ending

Now you see the problem?

BioShock

Rated R.

Directed by Gore Verbinski.

It'll never happen but that would make for a great video game adaptation.
