Could this possibly break the trend of poor VG movies?

Could Assassin’s Creed possibly break the so-called 'video game movie curse' started by the Super Mario Bros movie? Three other video game movies came out this year (if you could count The Angry Birds Movie as one) and those movies became mediocre to poorly receive by critics. Can the reception of this movie perform better with critics this time around, according to Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_based_on_video_games#International

It would need to do a lot better than Final Fantasy and Mortal Combat to break that trend.

I enjoyed the "Prince of Persia" film but I know that it didn't receive the best ratings. If the critics give "Assasins Creed" good reviews, then I think the "curse" could be broken, but Rogue One is going to be dominating the theaters for a long time. Box office numbers will therefore be much lower than they should be (assuming the move gets good reviews and word of mouth).

Yeah. In the grand scheme of things, Rouge One's box office performance would be the least of this movie's problem. Rouge One is going to pretty much dominate all this month.

Considering the common pattern that I'm seeing in the reviews right now, probably not.

Yeah, I saw. It's not looking good right now. I guess there's always Sly Cooper, if that's still a thing.
