so much talent involved, yet the movie is apparently not good?

As I said before, having good talent involved in a video game adaptation is not a guarantee that it would be good. There have been lot's of previous attempts at making them good by having good talent involved but it turns out that they haven't been.

it's amazing they can't take the time to get the script and story right.

Have you considered the possibility that maybe that's not the problem? That maybe it's just that the two mediums are incompatible?

According to critics Warcraft isn't a good movie. I enjoyed it, that's all that matters. If you like it, the movie is good.
