A 6,5 ain't that bad

reply

It's only "okay" on IGN's scale. What worries me is that they called the character's "paper thin" which is something that I've seen in a number of reactions on Twitter. I'm so certain that critics will like this as much as we hoped.

reply

That the characters would be Thin I already expected. But the other things IGN said about the movie made me happy

First German review gives AC 2 out of 5. Again, no character development and a rushed story are being criticized. Sounds like Warcraft all over again. Although, I'm sure the action scenes will be better.

reply

Amazing that no character development and poor story is not an issue when critics review Marvel movies.

reply

Indeed. Most Marvel movies also have Thin characters.

Most reviews I have read ( for now) of assassins Creed say that the action scenes outweigh the thin characters.

reply

[deleted]

Nope, Rogue One is *beep* awesome :)

reply

Rogue one has indeed paper thin characters. Only 3 are really good, the new droid, krennick and the blind Jedi wannabe

reply

Name one Marvel movie that had no character development.

reply

Well, so much for being a "milestone" movie in the video game movie sub-genre. I'm guessing that it could end up with a rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes and the "curse" still won't be broken.

reply

Dude have faith. IGN is lately very miss or hit with there reviews. And one German critic ain't gonna tune down my faith in this movie. Maybe it will not become a classic but it will be way better than Warcraft.

reply

Linked to the front page with an exert from it because the review is no longer in that link you posted.

reply

If even IGN gives it 6.5/10, then it's *beep* terrible. What a shame. It will probably have 20-30 on RT.

P.S. Other reviews will show up later, this evening. IGN broke embargo(maybe they confused its time).

reply

No, I think it could probably have an RT score in the 33-45, one of the most well received video game movies but still not a great movie.

reply

Well, 45% means that 45% of reviewers liked it, it's not the same as a score of 4,5/10. It may very well be a polarizing movie, which you'll love, but someone will hate (or vise versa).

reply

Yes, but I want to finally see a video game movie that most critics like, so that we can get a good one. I know what the Tomatometer score means.

reply

Well, critics aren't always right. They bashed "Blade Runner" and "The Shining" once, you know.

reply

That's the same argument that people made back on the Warcraft board when it was being bashed by critics. Look, critics bashed the theatrical releases of Blade Runner and The Shining (which they still think are bad, by the way) because studio interference ruined them. They changed their minds when director's cuts were released because those versions were good.

reply

This indeed. If I love this movie I love this movie and no critic gonna change that.

reply

IGN giving a review ain't saying *beep* They lately they give good things a bad or okay review and bad things a perfect review. IGN ain't the norm

reply

IGN often gives good/great marks to bad movies. They even gave Warcraft 7. If even they couldn't give it a good mark, then it's really terrible. Video-game sites usually more loyal to this kind of movies.

reply

I don't agree. Ign really lost my trust since 2 years ago

reply

Well, I don't trust them too. They are really bad at reviews(movies and games).

reply

IGN review and that german reviewer are from game focused webs, I´m staying calm. For me matters the opinions of top critics, from people who aren´t gamers. And I couldn ´t find IGN review on Kurzel´s Macbeth (searched on rottentomatoes), maybe reviewer had very different expectations. If this movie isn´t for a game fans, this could be a good thing. We´ll know in 24 hours.

"I just want to be somebody" Harry Fabian- Night And The City

reply

IGN gave Fantastic Beasts a 6.8. And that movie is certificated fresh on RT with 76% and metacritic 66, which is great for a blockbuster (star wars rogue one has 65 on metacritic)

reply

Now you mention it. Indeed hope is still there

reply

A 6,5 and a 3 stars out of 5 so far so good

reply

Another German review:
http://filmszene.de/filme/assassins-creed
6/10
Warcraft received 8/10. Right now reviews for Assassins's Creed are well below Warcraft's reviews in Germany.

Filmszene says the limitations of a PG-13 rating hurt the movie. There are several plot holes. Bad showdown. Marion Cotillard is wasted.
But the movie has great visuals and is at least ambitious with an almost philosophical undertone. Though this doesn't really work out. But respect for trying. Fassbender also takes his role very seriously and gives a good performance.

reply

So it's worse than Warcraft. Which got 28% on RT. That can't be good.

reply

There are not enough reviews online yet to really make that assumption. Warcraft also had pretty solid reviews in Germany and was leading box office for three weeks. I would expect Assassin's Creed making half the money Warcraft did in Germany.

But as far es reviews go Assassin's Creed might still connect better with critics in the USA. So a much better RT rating is still possible. Germany doesn't really have any impact on RT.

reply

Cart before the horse, I agree. But I'm not holding out much hope for a Fresh RT rating.

This is a review that I trust.

Be patient, I'll ad the IGN review back when they re-upload it. They're still under embargo and I think they uploaded it by mistake.
