Poor reviews for Passengers is good news for Assassin's Creed

The early reviews for "Passengers" are at a 20% on RT and a 39/100 on Metacritic.

Passengers is probably the biggest opponent to Assassin's Creed financially because there is more audience overlap (Than Sing for example).

reply

A little surprised by these Passengers reviews tbh. Was expecting at least 60% range on RT. The director's track record is good.

reply

Considering the movie is basically a creepy infatuation stalker movie I 'd say it was lucky to get even what it did.

reply

Hmm. I always said Passengers will not beat AC. But that such low ratings I did not expect.

reply

I saw that too. It's all downhill from here.

Whatever you are, be a good one.

reply

I came here to make a thread about this. Looks like opening at #3 in the box office is a possibility.

Plus, there's nothing released the next week.

17% is pretty terrible. But then again, it's not like Assassin's Creed is likely to have reviews on its side.

Are you talking for Passengers or for Assassin's Creed? Because I'm now thinking that #3 might be possible for AC.

reply

I'm talking AC, but really it's a possibility for either one of them.

reply

Not at all.

Pratt and Lawrence will drag the movie to hit status.

Unless Assassins Creed is a great movie, it will bomb. The studio already realizes this as the budget is suddenly being reported at 130 million compared to the 200 million it was at all times prior to now.

And the short length is also discouraging - it was 2 h 2 minutes for long and now it is barely 110 minutes?

This will probably suck.

reply

Wrong Wrong. The budget and the running time were only rumors and never confirmed.

Assassin's Creed will be a succes and at least number 3

reply

I was one of those who believed that Passengers won't hurt AC. Like a said before (somewhere in one of the my old posts):
Fessbender > Chris Pratt
AC is full of action hence will draw very young population, young adults, and male population the most.
Passengers is more romantic and dramatic hence will draw females more (who will draw their men, but not enough to increase numbers).
AC is something new: a sci fi and a historical movie. Space movies, we get them at least twice a year so you see my point.
AC already established a great fan base around the world, that will bring more people!

Bottom line, AC is fresh and Passengers is a rehash.

I hope you're right man! Macbeth was pretty good considering it was so faithful to the source material (Good thing and also a bad thing), and Assassin's Creed has the same Lead actor Director, supporting actress, and Cinematographer.

reply

Accually Michel Fassbender is more pointed at older audiences which is not what demographic this movie is aimed at.

Chris Pratt > Michel Fassbender

Jennifer Lawrence > Michel Fassbender

this movie is relying on its reviews (which its chances getting good reviews aren't so high) and the video game fans.

reply

Assassin's Creed chances of getting good reviews are very high, don't try do deceive people.

Nolan, I love you forever!

reply

Sounds like you have some pretty strong preconceived notions!

reply

I've actually seen this coming. There is just something wrong with this movie. It tries to be serious forgetting that Lawrence and Pratt could hardly do one.

I know someone who saw a screening of Assassin's Creed last week and gave it 6/10.

Saying very flawed, but it was okay.
