In the trailer the current mayor says these guys claimed they saved the world but there were no eyewitnesses.. what about the thousands of people that were lining the streets in the first movie? And the giant marshmallow guy they blew up?

shareTrue, but it was a major tourist destination and people would have had cameras, and there would have been news media everywhere. It's a huge event in one of the biggest and most famous cities on the planet. There was no social media when 9/11 happened but look at the massive quantities of footage.
