OK, so she's the same age as Ellie right now and kinda sorta looks like her. She also identifies as "queer" and the Left Behind DLC/prequel made it clear that Ellie is too. So it makes some sense. By the time the movie is filmed/released, Maisie Williams will be considerably older than the character, and she's not used to playing American characters and using an American accent. I think Rowan Blanchard might be a better choice at this point.

shareI honestly think age isn't really a big deal with the character of Ellie for a few reasons. 1) it's extremely common in films for actors/actresses to play characters younger than their actual age. People in their 20's often play teenagers. I don't think it would be that much of a stretch for an actress like Kaitlyn Dever (btw the best choice) who is 19 to play a 14 year old. 2) the original actress who played Ellie in the game, Ashley Johnson, was 28 at the time. People often seem to forget that. And 3) it's entirely possible Ellie's age could change for the film. Neil Druckmann might decide that for the film it'd work better if Ellie was say 16 instead
