Any insights to her motivation taking this trip?

A Tracks book review mentioned that Robyn doesn't elaborate on what caused her to make this trip. Mia in the film said something like she was tired of the repetitiveness of civilization, and half-assing her way through jobs and school.

Was wondering if anyone has any additional insight to her motivation for this trip? (psychological, mental, emotional..) I'm in a confused moment in my life, so I have this sort of hunger for this "existentialist" topic.

As Edmund Hilary said when asked why he climbed Mount Everest. "Because it's there!"

I would guess that she had a death wish brought on by ongoing depression due to her mother's suicide.

And the separation from her father and sister and that her first dog got put down.

I got the impression that early in life due to the death of her mother and her father's inability; whether steaming from social, emotional or financial reasons couldn't be there for her to understand why she took her own life, then further loosen the connection by separation of her beloved dog and disconnecting her more.. I'm not placing any blame on the father because it has to be harder for him losing his wife by a hanging suicide lot with unanswered questions perhaps leaving him lost as he has to deal with what to do with his children so he can work etc. I find that sometimes it doesn't really matter what words are used for explaining choices are because useful words were not explained in the beginning..

By the way famous quote ?Because it?s there." was from George Leigh Mallory, in 1924.
Sir Edmund Hillary who on May 29, 1953 reached the famous peak afterwards answered interviewer's questions with "It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves."

At the beginning she says something like: "Why would I do it?" "The answer is, why not?".

Hate is baggage, life's too short to be pissed off all the time.

She also talks about her father being an inspiration to her. He had traveled across the Kalahari Desert. Then he took another solo trip and was never seen again.

Maybe poker's just not your game, Ike. I know, let's have a spelling contest.
