After all these years, Mia.

I read that they've been trying to make this into a movie for like the last 30 years - they had Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman, Judy Davis and others lined up to play the lead. It may have been worth the wait because John Curran did a great job directing "The Painted Veil" and landing Mia Wasikowska to play Robyn Davidson sounds like a brilliant choice to me - Davidson must be excited. Also, Mia is australian, too, so that's also nice. Seeing Wasikowska and Adam Driver together will be worth the price of admission alone.

I loved John Curran's "The Painted Veil" and Mia Wasikowska is one of the best actresses to come along in recent years.

I've always said that Wasikowska would be an Oscar nominee before she reached 30 and it looks like this movie could be the one that welcomes her to the Oscar club.

I can't wait to see this flick.

Ribbons and detours meant nothing to me

This is from a fascinating interview with director John Curran and co-producer Iain Canning re "Tracks" and casting of Mia Wasikowska.

John Curran: There was no point in making this movie if the casting wasn’t absolutely right. I don’t even think we would got any financing, if it [casting] wasn’t really exciting. Somebody even said that Robyn Davidson was waiting for Mia to be conceived, be born and grow up and be right age, that’s why the film took so long to get made. We’re lucky she [Mia] was absolutely perfect. She and Robyn are so incredibly similar in personality, and you can see it in the pictures they kind of look alike.

Iain Canning: I remember reading a 1980’s copy of the [Robyn Davidson’s] book, and the back of it said ‘Soon to be a major motion picture’. And Mia wasn’t even born yet.

That's it, then. I'm definitely going to see it now..

They probably steered clear of a film about someone prepared to make animals suffer for her own ambition. I accept that the main character was damaged though, but the film failed to explain this.
