Castration scene? SPOILERS

I saw this film in a noisy aeroplane and missed some dialogue. In an earlier instruction scene the old bloke seems to castrate one of the camels.Is this the case and why?

The bull camel was castrated so he wouldn't try anything with the female in the group when mating season approached. Camels get pretty hardcore during mating season.

Bull camels have an incredibly bad reputation. Not only will they hurt any living being who annoys them, they'll also die just to piss you off!

Really, I've heard a million variations on this story. If you're out in the middle of the desert and are completely dependent on your male camel to get you to the next life-giving oasis, they will literally sit down and refuse to move, they'll just sit there until they die of heat and starvation. Everyone who's ever dealt with a camel who will literally die before it gets up swears they're doing it so they can watch you suffer and die, too.

Female camels don't act like that, so the guy who gave her the female camel and who castrated the bulls was doing her a VERY big favor.

Yes they were castrated, to avoid any probs with them wanting to have sex, just another glossed over example of abuse by sick minded people. Very selfish.
