This does look like they've done justice to the book. I'm really looking forward to seeing the film - wonder when it will come out in america.

There's some great stills that have just been released, too. Here's a couple.

Indeed, I think it will be very faithful to the book.

The Weinstein Co. acquired U.S. rights from the film in september, so I suppose the release date will be announced soon. I hope so, because I can't wait to see this. The first reviews from Venice and Telluride were strong :)

Thanks for the stills! Very nice.

It was my favourite film at the Toronto International Film Fest. This trailer does the beauty of the movie justice, the way I'm sure the movie does the book and Robyn Davidson's experiences justice too.

"Films like this, and many others, renew my faith in film making and even acting. Wish more actors were brave enough to slough off their need for greed or allow themselves to be a brand, and little more. So many actors have natural talent being wasted in this industry. It.is.so.sad. to watch them herded like cattle."

That's so true. It's all about pressure to make the bucks as fast as you can - to get to the top for fame and money (to be incorporated into a franchise, as soon as possible). Films and acting are entertainment, but when talented people have the courage and integrity to explore and develop their talent, they can produce actual art - it's going against the current, but it's so important. Our culture, sense of history and willingness to explore usually gets hijacked by greed. Mia Wasikowska has got the brains and integrity to match her talent - maybe it's an aussie thing.

"She's been outstanding in all her roles." Re "Stoker" - "I doubt her performance was anything but stellar. Which is a note to self to see it!"

Don't get me started on "Stoker" - I LOVE that film. The movie is definitely not for everyone - people seem to love it or hate it. Mia's performance, however, has been highly praised by just about everyone - it's completely different from anything else she's done - if you compare it to "Jane Eyre" or what we see of her in the "Tracks" trailer, it's from a completely different universe (a dark one). You should see it for yourself. "Stoker" is going to begin showing this weekend on HBO (in america) a lot of people are going to be in for a pleasant surprise, or perhaps they'll be wondering what the hell they just watched - they might hate it. I think it's brilliant - very disturbing, but in a beautiful, stylized way. Park Chan-wook is a masterful director. You should judge it for yourself. I think Mia's performance in it has opened a lot of people's eyes as to just how much of a chameleon she is.

With all due respect, Stoker was not a flop.

I don't want to get too deep into the "Stoker" weeds, since this is a thread about "Tracks", but the film was never conceived as some blockbuster type affair - it's a very strange, beautiful, artistic film that is not meant as mainstream american audience fodder. It was in theaters in my area for several weeks at the most, but for this type of film, in this current era, the theatrical run (if there is any at all) is more designed as a launch - they think much more long term - dvd, blu-ray, etc. (also it wasn't an expensive film to make in the first place). I'm not sure if Park Chan-wook's "Old Boy" for example, which has developed a real cult following over the years, even had a theatrical release in the states - yet, people still purchase the film and discuss it, and Spike Lee even has a re-make of it in the theaters right now (which many people consider almost blasphemy). "Stoker" is the kind of film that builds it's audience over time - it has been seen by the demanding Park Chan-wook followers as a very successful entrance into english speaking films (other asian masters have been seen as losing their mojo and having produced disappointing films in the states that don't reflect what made them unique in the first place). Anyway, I could go into much more detail as to how this film is conceived to reach it's audience - and how it's entering the cinema audience bloodstream - but, like I said, we're on a "Tracks" thread. If you get the chance, see "Stoker" (starting this weekend on HBO) and see what you think - there's been an extremely lively discussion on IMDB "Stoker" that has been going on for months - you could put in your feedback if you like - it would be welcomed. As I said, Mia gives one hell of a performance, too.

Ironic how in the same year we get PCW's English debut, then an American remake of his most famous movie.

I just watched the trailer for the first time today. And wow, I'm so excited; I absolutely cannot wait to see this film!

It looks absolutely stunning!!

And, it looks as if Mia gives yet another magnificent performance.

Why, they told me to take a streetcar named Desire...

"And, it looks as if Mia gives yet another magnificent performance."

Yeah, this story calls for an actress with real depth, which is what she expresses. Robyn Davidson was fearless when it came to challenging herself, and Mia is fearless when it comes to challenging her talent. I say when you've got it, put it to use.

This movie had been in the works longer than Mia's been alive. The fact that it took that long and that she's starring in it is mind-boggling.
