Great film.

Very well-done, intense and accurate.

I just saw it at the Toronto Film Festival in a nearly sold out 1200 venue. It's one of my favourites of the festival. I would go see it again in a minute!

Yes, sir, I'm going to do nothing like she's never been done before!

MissCroc,

Funny you should "say" this because ... I've seen the film FOUR times and am going to see it a FIFTH, no kidding.

Barbara just wants better cigarettes
Andre here is the hero of the GDR
Barbara shows little humanity apart from her (self-loving Hollywood) sacrifice. I refuse to believe that that Stalinist GDR merely oppressed unfriendly women who wanted better cigarettes. “accurate”? There must be better people that fought Honecker.

Don't get what you mean by better cigarettes and the stuff. Are you nostalgic from that period ? Or were you an executive of the east-german goverment ?

If you watched that film and you honestly believe that all she wanted was better cigarettes, something is wrong somewhere.

This wasn't a film about those who opposed Erich Honecker. It was about one woman and how the GDR victimized her after she dared to express a desire to go to West Germany to live happily ever after with her boyfriend.

She showed "little humanity"? Did you not see how her bedside manner with every patient was superior to that of her colleagues, save Andre? Something else you missed aside from the fact this wasn't about cigarettes.

Vader: I find your lack of faith disturbing.
Tarkin: Enough of this! Vader, release him!
