Anyone else enjoy this film as much as me???

This film has got a lot of hate since its release in 2013 but I have always enjoyed it. First off it has one of the most unique concepts of a horror film to come along in years. Sadly I could see something like The Purge to happen someday in the future in our society. (especially if the those gun crazy right wingers get their way) I really enjoyed the premise of the movie as well as the acting. Unlike most I didn't mind the story focusing on a family that initially supported The Purge but grew to change their minds over the course of the night. A lot of ppl hate on the kid in the film but cmon he is just a kid I probably would've done the same thing if I was in the kids shoes. It's not like the guy he let in turned out to be a killer anyway. Also the main villain channeling Heath Ledger's Jokers mannerisms somewhat I really enjoyed that.

All in all a very fun refreshing horror flick. Sure some things could've been done better but the film as it is I really enjoyed it and it holds up on repeat viewings which is really rare of horror films these days.

Anyone else enjoy it as much???

Yes! I loved it. It was intense and some moments were quite chilling!

re: First off it has one of the most unique concepts of a horror film to come along in years.

NOT to be Mr. Snottypants, but some episodes of Rod Serling's original Twilight Zone had a similar premise: Basically, many people have this veneer of "being civilized" until something comes along to put their "values" to the test...and the bleep hits the fan. The Purge just went further: What if people could unleash their savage desires one day of the year? It was a "modern" fable but many people took it literally.

Also there was a short story I recall from high school English class in the 1970s, "The Lottery," in which the "winner" of this small town's lottery was stoned to death by the townspeople.

BUT in terms of mainstream horror films, you do have a point. Also, if you liked this, try to see The Final.

I saw it opening day and I liked it a lot. I've always been a big fan of home invasion thrillers and that was basically what this movie played out like.

The Purge Gang, with their freaky masks were pretty creepy, too. The leader was especially demented I thought. Some of the characters so really stupid things but then again, they don't know they're in a horror movie.....

Out of the first two films, I think I liked Anarchy a bit more but the first one is definitely a good one

shempXIV, You mentioned two things I thought of while watching this movie! The story The Lottery is one. I read that in high school. It's a little different, but the idea that a society can rationalize abhorant behavior as long as it's sanctioned by the government is the same. Also, The Twilght Zone. Did you know there's a marathon on the SyFy channel every New Years and 4th of July? Join us on the TZ board if you'd like. We keep a running thread going throughout the marathons. They usually start before the holiday so check in ahead of time to see when.

It has many flaws and is definitely far from perfect, but I like it.

No. I like the actors, unfortunately the script is shoddy as it gets

i thought the premise was really interesting, but the execution could have been so much better
