If you steal something during the purge..

Do you get to keep it?

reply

Yes you do

What if you tunnel into a bank but don't actually break through into vault until the siren blares then haul all the money out and hide for 12 hours can you keep it ?

reply

Yes. I'd do that, haha.

reply

No, you'd be charged with the "Previous siren" crime of breaking and entering, so you'd lose anyway.

reply

But the thing is anything done within those 12 hours is ok. So I'm going with the other guys. Don't break in until the siren actually goes off.

Heck, you don't even need to hide! Your crime is committed within those 12 hours so who cares?

reply

Steal all the money you want. But don't think you're making it home alive. Even if you wait in the vault until the Purge ends, how are you getting that money home? You'll be arrested on the spot for breaking and entering, theft, fraud and whatever else the bank can think of.

Besides, I imagine that banks will be the most secure structures in the country. Fortified without and within, money and safety deposit boxes moved off-premises, automatic motion-detection defenses, highly-paid security personnel (so they won't be tempted to rob the bank themselves) armed with military grade weaponry instructed to shoot to kill... the works.

Still, considering you made it home alive with your stash, can you really keep the stolen goods? Somehow, I think there would have to be some kind of legal measure against keeping stolen goods, though I can't imagine what.

Person on trial: "I took it during the Purge, Your Honor".
Judge: "Case dismissed."

It can't be that simple.

reply

Well then we'd just have to rob a bunch of gas stations. In reality, a guy recently stole a few thousand dollars worth of scratch off tickets.

I was wondering, if you kill someone, do you get their stuff? For example, if someone offed the entire Sandin family, could they just move in?

reply

yeah, just push corpses apart first

That's a good question. You couldn't be charged for the act of theft but could you be charged with possession of stolen property after the purge is over?
