The is a pretty evil action towards 5 kids who really did nothing wrong... Did they really forget that he was trying to kill him after his identity is revealed?
More sympathy could have been available for the character had he not tried to actually murder the kids.
At the end, he fully realized what he'd done. He thought he was a good man pursuing a just cause, but then he realized that he'd killed, endangered, and attacked the innocent, and was unworthy to be reunited with his daughter.
I thought it was pretty well-written.
