Horrible show and writing

Just awful...liked it at first but as it went on you can see how BAD it is. Just a bunch of hideous looking people overacting.

All the court scenes were terrible and would never happen in real life. The defense just makes things up
..uhmmmm OBJECTION. LEADING. SUSTAINED.

Dont watch

I totally agree. Very early on in S1 I started to dislike most of the characters, including the two detectives. By the end I wanted to give them all a good kicking for their stupidity and for being so annoying.

In S2 I wanted to do the same to the characters from his previous case. I don't think I'll be watching S3.

'No offense' means I'm about to insult you, but don't get mad.

As a retired policeman I couldn't agree more. Send the manual to the scriptwriter first. I don't know what college he studied at, but it sure wasn't a police college, and as you said he seems to know practically nothing about forensics, interviewing techniques, the way a court works, or police procedures. He must be self-taught by watching too much television.

The court dialogue was particularly atrocious. Did any legal eagle actually check such drivel before it was aired?

reply

You guys must understand this is based on a little small city, yeah.

A like that never happened and the only experienced guy is Hardy.

The court scenes really seems normal and happens in a lot of places, it is part of the true stuff.

You guys are comparing to lots of big cases happened with tons of experienced people, the scale of the series is many times lower.

"Overacting" I love it when keyboard warriors criticise people's acting ability. Let's see you try it then!

reply

First, I don't agree with the "Let's see you try it then". As an audience, we have the right to criticise what's presented to us, even if we're not experts.

That being said, I think this is a terrific series, with outstanding writing and acting. I think the problem here is the comparison with American TV series. It's a different standard (this is a more constrained and "small" series). Olivia Colman does a fantastic job as a policewoman.

OK, I really would like to hear how this show is inaccurate with the way forensics, police procedures, court procedures, etc. are portrayed.

How are they poorly portrayed?

Please give evidence and support your case.

Seriously. I loved season 2 but I kept rolling my eyes each time the defense was concocting conspiracies and fantasies out of nowhere (Ellie/Hardy affair, Tom/Nigel conspiring to dump Danny's corpse, etc) as fact and the court went along with it each time.

It made me unsympathetic to the lawyer's personal problems with her imprisoned son.

I just finished Season 1, and the ending left me underwhelmed. The show did keep me guessing...but then the final reveal was kind of tired and unexciting...sort of Mid-Century gay panic twaddle.
