Funnily enough Michelle Jones was one of the women he dated in the comics after he and Mary Jane made a deal with a demon to erase their marriage from existence in order to bring his Aunt May back to life. And it's because of that, I am not reading comics with Michelle Jones in them. Mary Jane was the perfect love interest for him because she loved him as both Spider-Man and Peter Parker while a lot of his previous love interests loved Peter but hated Spider-Man or in Black Cat's case loved Spider-Man but hated Peter Parker. I really don't get why Marvel didn't see it that way.

I’m not a comic reader so thanks for that. I didn’t know Michelle Jones was an actual character from the comics and Aunt May dying is actually canon. I assume it’s not how it happens in NWH?

Same here. She's not very much like the MJ of the comics in terms of personality, though. MJ in the comics was a very extroverted party girl. Zendaya's portrayal is closer to Gwen Stacey in the comics.
