It's not the worst sequel ever by a long stretch but you are well within your rights to dislike it.
I was very disappointed with it after the pace and non-stop action of the first. I just found this one a bit cliched and too much style and not enough substance.
Parts of it reminded me of Hero (hated that), beautiful to look at but not to watch and parts reminded me of any David Lynch film, which was a bit odd. There even seemed to be a bit of Warriors in there.
I thought the scenes building up the loyal assassin guy were rushed and contrived. He can fight. He loves his family. He's loyal. Dead.
I was still with it at this point but when Hammer Girl and Baseball Bat Man were introduced I just thought it went over the line into ridiculous.
There's a girl character. She's emotionless. Wears shades indoors. Oh, she's deaf. She fights with hammers. Maybe they'll attack her in numbers to take away her strengths. No, they'll just fight her one by one. And die.
Okay, this guy fights with a baseball bat, fair enough. Oh, he has a baseball as well; he must be good at throwing. No, he is going to use the bat. Ouch, perfect accuracy. That was a flu...no, he just did it again. A career in baseball would have been far more fruitful than a life as a presumably fairly low paid assassin surely.
I never expected this film to be grounded in reality and can put up with the constant attacking one by one but Silat is gritty and real. The film needs to stay near to reality.
And does anyone own a gun???
