I love shows like Downton Abby and Mr. Selfridge but now that both shows are no longer on till the next season can someone suggest another show to watch preferably Victorian Era or early 20th century shows. Thanks.

"Call the Midiwife" takes place in the 1950's, and I highly recommend it. One of the best show on TV right now (Season 4 just ended) and I believe it is available (1-4) on DVD. One of the best shows on PBS. You won't be disappointed.

These might be to your liking:

Brideshead Revisted; Cranford and Return to Cranford; The Forsyte Saga; House of Elliott; Lark Rise to Candleford; Lillie; Mjss Fisher's Murder Mysteries; Upstairs, Downstairs - the original and the 2011 version; and, maybe, The Happy Valley.

Last year, others suggested "Lark Rise..." for those of us who were following Dowton Abbey. I watched about four or five eps of LR and just couldn't get into it. I found the acting to be pedestrian, along with the storylines - which just dragged and dragged. Others felt the same way.

Are we all missing something? Does this show get better as time goes on?

Another show the OP may want to try is "The Paradise" which ran for 2 seasons (2013 and 2014), and is often compared to this show (business tycoon running a department store). Difference is - the storylines and cast are much better in TP.

Comparing "Mr. Selfridge" to "The Paradise":

Difference is - the storylines and cast are much better in TP.

I enjoyed The Paradise. Ended too soon.

For a little bit later in time, Bletchley Circle and Land Girls are both kind of interesting.

A lot of people enjoyed Forsyte Saga, although I felt it dragged a bit.

Ripper Street is good but a bit bloodier than the other "light drama" shows.

Movies are IQ tests; the IMDB boards are how people broadcast their score.

The Paradise was wonderful! I was so sorry it ended just as it was getting really exciting.

The Grand, Little Dorritt and a lot of the Catherine Cook son's

Poldark is marvelous and maybe the original Poldark aswell

No, I meant "The Happy Valley" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093694/ which I forgot was a one-off TV movie, not a mini-series.

Yes! All of those are excellent recommendations you gave.
There are also movies that are of the same "type" and style, such as: Gosford Park (2001), Howards End (1992), The House of Mirth (2000),The Age of Innocence (1993), plus several movies based on Jane Austen's novels. Also....Bleak House (TV Mini-Series from 2005).
