I really enjoyed this movie even though I'm not aware of which exact comic is based on. The thing I felt was really strange was the scene with the mayor going into prison cell alone with a known killer. Was that scene based on something else maybe from the original comic book that I might not be aware of?
shareThis is exactly how it plays out in the comic. The mayor is extremely naive and incompetent. He won't do anything without consulting polls, and seems paralyzed by indecision at times. He really doesn't have a clue what the Mutant leader is capable of, and falsely believes he can negotiate a truce with him. The Mutant leader kills him for fun (essentially) and knows there will be no consequences because his gang will break him out sooner or later.
shareThanks for explaining it. Having not read the original comic that's derived from this universe sounds like this is much darker than the previous Batman animation I've seen. Sounds like they really pegged a parody of an incompetent politician in this.

That makes sense it was a graphic novel thanks for explaining that. This treatment comes across a little more realistic within the Batman universe.
shareActually the scene is a bit different in the comic. In the comic you see it from the Mutant Leader's perspective, and just see the shocked faces of Gordon and the police officers.
They don't show the blood and body like in the animated movie, they let you imagine what the Mutant Leader did. That made it much creepier.
I would have preferred if they did it the same way.

shareNo, Batman is not a kids comic. Something like "Peanuts" is a kids comic. They have adaptations of Batman that are kid friendly like the Adam West Batman or Batman the animated series, but not the comics and not all of the movies. This is one of the ones that is not.
