RoboCop

It's funny that they got Peter Weller to play batman when you look at the similarities between TDKR and Robocop. Gotham in this one could well have been old Detroit. [spoilers/]Like when batman pulls the mutant through the wall, that same thing happens in Robocop during the city hall siege and all the cuts to news and interviews with passers by and so on and so on[spoilers/] Then to cap it off Frank Miller wrote some of the same things into Robocop 2 such as threatening to shoot the baby. Just a thought! Any more?!

Maybe that's why they wanted to go with Peter Weller in the first place. Though, I do remember an interview with Andrea Romano saying she had a list of people she always wanted to work with and Weller was on there and available.

Anyone else notice how the helmet Bruce Wayne wears in the race car scene in the beginning resembles him as RoboCop? Might've been a nice little nod to his earlier work.

Yeah I came here to say the same thing, it seemed like Miller took a lot of inspiration from Robocop when writing this.

Another similarity is when Bruce Wayne becomes Batman again, we get lots of scenes of him helping people and stopping criminals around Gotham. Very similar to when we see Robocop hit the streets for the first time.

Miller couldn't have taken inspiration from RoboCop when he wrote this because The Dark Knight Returns was released as a comic in 1986. The first RoboCop film came out in 1987.
